Daisy on linearity

Daisy tugs on the lead. There’s no need to get all linear about it, she says. I indicate the path between the sheep on the left and the sheep on the right. This is our line, I say.  Straight and narrow and the only way out of the mess we’re in. I tighten my grip.  Daisy scuttles towards some sheep-poo (delicious!), attempts a wide circuit of the field on the left (to be fair, the sheep are untidy), and has hardly set off by the time we get to the gate. The energy sings down the lead. At the gate, a new field opens up. Be good! I say. Follow the path; hold to the story.
