I wondered what Shakespeare would sound like on a kazoo. So I got out my kazoo (doesn’t everyone have a kazoo?) and spoke a few lines of Hamlet into them. Famous lines. Lines everyone would know. That made Daisy sit up. She said she loved it! Hamlet on a kazoo made her wild. It wasn’t because of the words, she said. It was because they had been taken back to the borders of meaning. To be or not to be? was Hamlet’s question – but on a kazoo it was a more pressing matter. To mean or not to mean? The suspense kept me playing all afternoon.
