When Daisy howls in the garden, it sounds like disavowal. I mean it sounds like disavowal with a long, drawn out wal at the end. If she does this, it is likely that she has found a hedgehog. Hedgehogs live at the bottom of the garden, carrying on in their strange, dark hedgehog ways. We do not know what they are doing at the end of the garden. They are mysterious and magical. Daisy and I mostly leave it at that. Mostly we act as if there are no hedgehogs. Except now and again. Now and again, one of us goes to the end of the garden to seek them out. If it is Daisy, she makes her point perfectly. Disavowal! she cries.
